Renata T. S. Lemos an Lucia Santaella: "Levels of Convergence"

Another video from the Metanexus Institute collection, Subject, Self, and Soul: Transdisciplinary Approaches to Personhood. I'm not too keen on this approach, but it's interesting to listen to anyway.

Renata T. S. Lemos an Lucia Santaella: "Levels of Convergence"

The idea of integrating different levels of reality is at the core of NBIC (Nano-Bio-Info-Cogno) convergence. Converging technologies enable hybrid cognitive interfaces, through the systemic integration between neural networks and nano artifacts. Hybrid interfaces occur on the thresholds between biology, information technology, neuroscience and Artificial Intelligence. Digital technologies enable not only a multiplication of levels around the juxtaposition of the concepts of mind versus matter. In this paper, we argue that converging technologies enable the intersection of three main levels of reality: quantum, informational and semiotic. The thresholds of NBIC convergence are also the thresholds connecting quantum theories to semiotics. Nicolescu's Logic of the Included Middle and Peirce's Law of Mind emerge as crucial theoretical standpoints in the study of hybrid cognitive interfaces.
